Reformed grave robber John Kibera has revealed that his former criminal job was a well paying one.
Kibera hit the headlines in the 90s as the most wanted coffin thief, a job he did alongside his gang and other connected people like drivers and coffin dealers.
Speaking on Radio Maisha on Wednesday morning, Kibera revealed that the job made him a millionaire, cashing in close to 8 million shillings.
Through the job, he revealed, he managed to put up luxurious rentals in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa estate, cashing in close to 250, 000 shillings a month.
‘’Ilikuwa na pesa, niliunda kati ya milioni saba na nane wakati huo na nikajenga majumba ya kifahari pale Kileleshwa ambapo nilipata shilling robo million kila mwezi kama kodi (it was a well-paying job which brought me close to 8 million shillings. Through it, I put up rentals in Kileleshwa estate, earning me 250,000 shillings in monthly rent),’’ he claimed.
He would, however, later 'quit' the job and turn himself in some, a move that saw him surrender the investments to a charity organization.
‘’Ilifika mahali nikamrudia Mungu na nyumba yenyewe hata nikaipeana (it got to appoint that I sought deliverance and surrendered the house),’’ he added.
This was after his three colleagues were shot down by the police after a botched casket robbery attempt in Nairobi.
He is currently serving as a motivational speaker.
