According to Kipkelion lawmaker Hillary Koskei, the reconciliation was a trick to cool Raila who was becoming a threat to lay out facilitate Deputy President William Ruto’s presidency in 2022.

Speaking during a fundraiser at Fort Ternan Full Gospel Church in Kipkelion on Sunday, Koskei added that the same is as well the shocker Uhuru recently promised during his latest tour of Nyeri.

He noted that the former Prime Minister should not expect Uhuru’s endorsement as his (Uhuru) successor, advising him to prepare himself to take part in picking Ruto’s running-mate for the race.

“The handshake was President Kenyatta’s political trick to remove a stumbling block in Ruto’s path. What the former prime minister should get ready for is just to assist the President in picking Ruto’s running mate,’’ he is quoted by the Monday Standard.

His comments were echoed by area Senator Aaron Cheruiyot who urged Raila to support Ruto in return for Ruto’s support of his futile presidential bid in the 2007 general election.

Cheruiyot maintained that Uhuru would keep his initial promise to back Ruto after his second term.

“Ruto’s debt with Uhuru comes from the loyalty and support he has given the President since the 2013 General Election,’’ he is quoted.

Also present was Elgeyo Marakwet Senator and Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen who is a close ally of Ruto.
