Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana now says that politicians close to President Uhuru Kenyatta should be ready for anything in the approaching 2022 general elections.
Speaking during the burial ceremony of Peter Mairu, father to Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) leader Kalonzo Muyoka in Mwingi, Kitui County on Friday, Kibwana cautioned the group against anticipating Uhuru’s endorsement in their bids.
This comes barely two weeks after Uhuru vowed to make a shocking declaration on his choice for a successor as he prepares to exit the presidency and slip into his looming retirement.
According to Kibwana, Uhuru’s statement meant that he might end up picking an unexpected candidate and leave out the others expected to feature in his endorsement.
"He who thinks will be named may not be named,’’ advised the county chief.
Kibwana further hailed the President and opposition leader Raila Odinga for their March 9 truce.
He added that the ceasefire which came in the middle of a heated political argument between the government and opposition should now be utilized to promote growth among Kenyans.
Both leaders were present in the event that was also attended by Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, other leaders and area residents.
The late Mairu died last week aged 94.
