It becoming a new topic in Mombasa City that bedbugs are becoming a problem in the Standard Gauge Railway's (SGR) Madaraka Express train.
First, when Mwambe Tayari bus terminus' conductors were asking passengers to use buses while travelling to Nairobi instead of SGR, one could say it was just but any other business language in the transport industry, because they were saying 'huko kuna kunguni" (there are bedbugs there) in reference to the SGR.
However, the same allegations emerged online, and this time around, there were pictures as proof for the doubting Thomases.
"10:36 @KenyaRailways_ this was shared in a group yesterday... a bed bug on SGR.. via @Peterki80092042," read the tweet from Ma3Route-which is a mobile, web and SMS platform that helps users to share and access information about transport and current traffic conditions for their city.
The tweet had tagged Kenya Railways but the state-owned entity is yet to address the issue raised.
Bedbugs have been a major nuisance in most of PSV vehicles in Mombasa and even other parts of the country due to the nature of how they are spread from one place to another.
They can attach themselves to unsuspecting passengers before they are moved from one matatu to another. It is, therefore, possible they might have been moved to the SGR's Madaraka Express.
