While campaigning for ODM senatorial candidate Ochillo Ayacko in Migori recently, Odinga said that the decision intends to avoid chaos in the party.

“This issue of carrying out nominations which seem like general elections…We want to do away with it because if it continues that way then people will only keep fighting. We will identify who is suitable for what position and plant them there,” Odinga was quoted by Citizen Digital.

Mc'Obewa who vied for the Kisumu County gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate after losing to Anyang' Nyong’o in the ODM primaries, said the decision is welcome.

“Now that ODM is serious about direct tickets something I strongly support because finally, potential candidates can make an early decision on running or not without committing resources to a flawed process,” he posted on his Facebook page.

However, the politician called for vetting of the ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) members who will be in charge of handpicking candidates for various posts.

In the recent past, ODM party primaries were characterized by violence.

The scenario was different in Migori, after party bigwigs handpicked Ayacko to vie for the senatorial seat.

He won the seat in the by-election held Monday.
