Renowned football commentator and long time Citizen Radio presenter Mohamed Juma Njuguna is dead.
Standard Group journalist Geoffrey Mosoku took to his Facebook wall to break the devastating news to the media fraternity.
"Mohamed Juma Njuguna. Rest with the angels mzee wa kazi," wrote Mosoku in a small text, confirming the sad news.
In her official Twitter handle, Radio Africa sports commentator Carol Radull described Mr Njuguna as a 'friend and mentor', further confirming the tragic news.
"Our paths crossed on so many occasions. A friend. A mentor. Veteran Radio Presenter and football commentator Mohammed Juma Njuguna has died. Rest in peace my friend #TheScoreKE," she wrote.
Njuguna, who is among pioneer football commentators in Kenya, had a long spell with London-based British Broadcasting Cooperation, where he mastered his Swahili commentary.
Afterwards, he was recruited by Royal Media boss SK Macharia to Citizen Radio in 1999, where he worked as a content producer until his death in Nairobi Hospital.
Also, before joining Citizen, Njuguna worked with National Broadcaster, KBC. He trained many journalists while working there.
In 2010, retired President Daniel Moi awarded Mr Njuguna with Head of State Commendation, appreciating his contributions to broadcast media.
Mr Njuguna has been working with Citizen Radio but in recent months, he's not been heard on air. It's believed that he was been ailing for long. Sources claim that he has be chronic diabetic.
