This is after the High Court directed him to pay former Cabinet Minister Chris Murungaru a sum of Sh27 million for libel.

The court found Githongo guilty of wrongly implicating Murungaru in the Anglo-leasing saga 13 years ago, ordering that he compensates him for the damages done.

However, responding to the ruling, Githogo said that the courts disallowed the defence evidence he presented, adding that he will appeal the ruling.

“The matter has drudged through the courts for 13 years and been heard by different judges. It is my plan to appeal this judgment as vigorously as possible. Unfortunately, the court also disallowed witness evidence in my regard and we have filed my intention to appeal on this basis as well,” said Githongo.

According to the ruling, Githongo will have to pay Sh20 million in general damages, Sh2 million in special damages and another Sh5 million in exemplary damages.

The former Governance and Ethics Permanent Secretary in President Mwai Kibaki's regime added that the ruling will not affect his stand against corruption.

The scandal cost the counrty about Sh50 billion.
