Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has put residents on notice following the theft of electric cables meant to connect electricity to various homes in the county.
Speaking on Friday at the Gusii Stadium, the governor ordered the county enforcement officers to intensify their crackdown to ensure those stealing the cables and other electric materials are brought to book.
"My administration has set aside funds to purchase transformers to help in electricity connectivity in all areas of the county but there are some few individuals who are stealing the electric cables and selling them. I want to reiterate that whoever will be found in possession of the electric materials will be dealt with in accordance with the law," said Ongwae.
The county boss said residents should stop joining criminal gangs with the intention of stealing as this was a sign of laziness.
He urged residents to cooperate with authorities to help in curbing the theft of electric cables.
"People should not vandalise the new transformers meant to supply power to specific areas where we have done a number of boreholes to facilitate water reticulation. No thief should be spared at all," stated Ongwae.
Ongwae also challenged Kenya Power officials to work on fixing the power outages being experienced in the region.
