Police in Mogotio, Baringo County, is holding a murder suspect who reportedly killed a man in a suspected love triangle.
The suspect is said to have hacked 19-year-old Edwin Kipkemboi to death for allegedly having an affair with his wife.
This, according to witness accounts, came only moments after he also assaulted the wife, accusing her of having an affair.
Mogotio Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer Otieno Nyamburu confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect attacked the deceased on the road before killing him on Wednesday.
He said that the accused, who was arrested in Molosirwe village on Friday, had initially confronted the family of the deceased before they told him where to find Kipkemboi.
“The suspect went to Kipkemboi’s house where he found his father and demanded to know where his son was. The suspect was armed with a panga and a rungu and the old man revealed his son’s whereabouts out of fear,” Nyamburu is quoted by the Standard.
He said that the police are now seeking to get the account of the woman in question, as they seek to confirm if she was indeed assaulted as residents have claimed.
“Some residents claim that the wife had been assaulted before the suspect committed the murder. We are however yet to get in touch with the wife to ascertain the claims,” he added.
The body of Kemboi is being preserved at the Nakuru County Municipal Hospital Mortuary. The suspect is on the other hand being held at the Mogotio Police Station pending his arraignment.
