Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is among the top politicians who have so far declared their interests in the presidential position in 2022 polls.Kalonzo has been quoted saying that he will not shelve his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the next general election.
The former Vice President who unsuccessfully contested for the presidential seat in 2007 says he is tired of being other people’s presidential running mate.
With four years left to the much anticipated 2022 polls, Kalonzo is said to be strategizing on how to woo for votes.
However, some political analysts and politicians from the Kamba community argue that Kalonzo is not serious in his presidential bid.
Political pundits argue that Kalonzo has not shown the appetite for the top seat ahead of 2022.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Kalonzo needs to be more aggressive as he pushes to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
The analyst observes that the former Vice President needs the blessing of top and veteran politicians in order to win in the polls.
According to Ngure, here are politicians Kalonzo need to seek their support to win in 2022:
1. Uhuru Kenyatta
He is the sitting Kenyan President serving his second term in office.
Political pundits argue that Kalonzo will easily win in 2022 if Kenyatta endorses his bid.
Recently, the Wiper leader pledged to work with the government.
Kalonzo said he is ready to be Kenyatta’s errand boy, a remark that angered some of his supporters and allies.
2. Raila Odinga
The former Prime Minister is currently the African Union (AU) representative for infrastructure and development.
The ODM party leader has unsuccessfully contested for the presidential seat four times.
In 2017, Raila and Kalonzo are said to have signed a Memmorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the NASA coalition that was to see the latter automatically fly the NASA presidential ticket in 2022.
However, it seems Raila might not honor the MoU on grounds that he did not win the 2017 presidential election.
Political pundits observe that Kalonzo’s presidential chances in 2022 will increase if he gets Raila’s backing.
3. William Ruto
He is the Deputy President serving his second term in office.
Ruto is also eyeing to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
Political analysts argue that Kalonzo will increase his chances of winning in 2022 if he gets DP Ruto's backing.
