The former classmates at Elburgon said Waithaka has been a staunch Christian all his school days and were hurt that he was humiliated on Saturday.

“I remember this guy so well. He used to be a staunch Christian Union member,” said James Gathigi.

Waithaka was to wed his love Joyce Waithera on Saturday before things went south.

Apostle Joseph Karanja of the Mizpah House of Prayer said the couple had not met the church’s set standards. This was after he subjected the couple to three HIV tests and pregnancy ones for the bride.

“Basic principles of our Christian Pentecostal ministry were not met. As an apostolic leader I have to answer to God about your life… I have the authority to tell you, ‘you must go this way’. If you don’t do it I have a legal authority from heaven to ex-communicate you,” said Apostle Karanja.

Waithaka has been serving as a translator in the church before he met his heart charmer and started organizing to go down the aisle.

According to family members, the two took up to six months to plan the wedding.
