The GSU officer killed in the deadly DusitD2 terror attack last week in will at least 21 people lost their lives was attached to President Uhuru Kenyatta's elite security team, it has emerged.
Constable Japhet Nuru died amid evacuation process in Dusit Hotel moments before elite Recce Squad officers arrived. He's among the emergency team deployed from State House to secure the team.
Already, his family from Taita Taveta County has arranged funeral and is expected to be laid to rest this coming Saturday at his ancestral home.
“Meetings for funeral arrangements will take place today 22/1/2019 at Kindergarten hall and Wednesday 23/1/2019 at A.C.K hall, All Saints Cathedral starting from 5pm,” an obituary read.
The 28-year-old, who was attached to the presidential guard was shot and killed by one of the four militants who had raided the dustiD2 complex.
On Friday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i visited hosted his family but details of the meeting still remain scanty even as the family asked for help to bury him.
At Mombasa on Tuesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta hailed the security forces for effective response, adding that he was ready to give the all the support.
"I am very proud of your work. As Kenyans, that was something we shall never forget. We shall defeat these criminals with your support. I am very happy."
Among the General Service Unit officers, there are many sub units including the presidential escort team where Mr Nuru worked.
