Orange Democratic Movement officials were instructed to make follow-ups in all court processes to ensure all necessary documents were provided to prove who was legitimate party nominee to Nyamira Assembly, it has emerged.
On Tuesday, Ms Irene Mayaka, who famously chaired Daughters of Raila lobby group during 2017 polls, was sworn in as nominated MCA after months of court battles waged by Damaris Mouni, who had sneaked her name.
In her speech on Tuesday, Ms Mayaka hailed ODM leader Raila Odinga as a true nationalist, adding that he regularly followed the case through his aides until it's conclusions.
"I must thank party leader Raila Odinga. He instructed our lawyers and party officials to ensure justice is done. I almost gave up but they continued to encourage me, giving legal services where it's needed," she said.
Ms Mayaka added: "For instance, our lawyer Tony Moturi and Executive Director Oduor Ongwen were under constant instructions from Raila to ensure I was provided with all documents. We ended up winning this."
Ms Mouni, the courts established, sneaked her name through her son , Gekara Mouni, who at that time worked as personal assistant of IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati. She lost on all court battles.
Speaker Moffat Teya had earlier distanced himself from the debacle, insisting that he could not hastily swear in Ms Mayaka due to numerous court orders issued to the assembly.
"I am happy the courts have pronounced themselves and IEBC has done it's duty. We want harmony and this matter has been concluded. It's over now," he said on Tuesday.
