Nakuru Town West Member of Parliament Samuel Arama has denied claims of causing terror at a local church last Saturday, by brandishing his gun.
The MP has landed on the spot over claims that he drew his gun after an altercation with his rival Hezron Okiki during a fundraiser at the Angaza Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church.
However, Arama now says that he actually saved Okiki's life from angry residents wanted to assault him , after he (Okiki) took to the podium to hurl insults at him.
Arama added that he called in the police who arrived and whisked Okiki from the angry crowd.
“He (Okiki) began abusing me when he was given time to give his donation. I only called the police when people started assaulting him. I save his life," Arama was quoted by the Standard on Sunday.
The incident was confirmed area Police Commander Patrick Olonyi, who, however, denied being aware of any gun drama.
Yhe poloce boss said that his officers were called in by Arama, claiming that Okiki was causing disturbance at the church and found him being roughed up by the MP's supporters.
He added that Okiki was later arrested and detained at the Kaptembwo Police Station for questioning and later released on free bond as investigations into the matter continue.
“Arama called us (the police) claiming that Okiki was causing a disturbance at the church accusing him of misusing public resources and squandering Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and money meant for development projects in several rallies within the county,” said the police boss.
However, on his side, Okiki said that Arama was part of the group that assaulted him, claiming that the police watched as he was being roughed up, claims Olonyi dismissed.
The officer added that Arama, who is in office courtesy of the ruling Jubilee Party, has since been summoned to record a statement on the issue.
