The latest handshake in Gusii region has caused a stir among Gusii community members.
Borabu MP Ben Momanyi and Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi were pictured extending the handshake to each other.
The leaders were attending a funeral at Nyansiongo area in Nyamira County on Friday.
Momanyi has declared to run for Nyamira governor's seat in 2022 with Maangi having similar plans in Kisii County.
A section of residents in Nyamira County said the unity movement among Gusii elected leaders is working.
"The handshake between Mr. Momanyi and Maangi is a clear indication that our leaders are committed to work together. Gusii community members must learn from our leaders and live as one people," said Vincent Gwaro.
Joan Magoma argued that 2017 political losers criticizing Gusii elected leaders unity movement will have difficult time in 2022.
"Maangi extending handshake to Mr. Momanyi should send a message to critics opposing the unity among elected leaders from the region. Political losers who are not supporting the unity movement should consider boarding to remain relevant in 2022," she noted.
However, Ezekiel Mayaka opposed the handshake between the two leaders saying they won't make in 2022.
"Momanyi won't succeed Governor John Nyagarama and Maangi must not expect a walk in the park to take over from Governor James Ongwae. The two will be sent into the political cold come 2022," noted Mayaka.
