Moments after it emerged that the Health CS Sicily Kariuki gazetted outgoing Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore as a board member of the National Cancer Institute, lawyer Miguna Miguna has taken swipe at the government.
Miguna faulted the government saying many young people are languishing in joblessness yet they are learned but never get such state appointments.
"More than 70 per cent of Kenyan youth with college and university diplomas are unemployed but a foreigner who has just retired from a well-paying executive position at Safaricom PLC gets an appointment," Miguna posed on Wednesday.
The Canadian-based Kenyan lawyer reiterated that Kenya will not be stable, united, developed and prosperous until when the government starts treating its own citizens with dignity.
According to Miguna, Collymore's appointment is a characteristic of bad leadership and a show of no concern of its citizenry from the government.
"The appointment of Bob Collymore is an exhibit of bad governance and a regime that despises its own," he added.
The National Cancer Institute is a corporate body established under the Cancer Control Act and is serving as the coordinating body of all cancer control activities in the country.
It's mandated to advise the Health CS on the priorities that should be accorded to cancer control and prevention in the country.
The major functions the institute undertakes include general oversight, coordination of all activities, advocacy and awareness creation, cancer registration and coordinating cancer research.
