Nairobi women representative Esther Passaris claimed that women and school girls are being raped by male youths due to lack of employment in the country.

"The country has witnessed cases of women and school girls being raped in villages due to lack of jobs. Our male youths are idle in villages and this leads them into temptation to rape women and school girls,” she said.

According to her, rape cases will come to an end if the government creates more job opportunities to accommodate the increased number of youths who are jobless in villages across the country.

“Our youths need to be busy by ensuring they have jobs and start small businesses so that they can stop defiling women and school girls,” she noted.

She called on parents not to defend rape suspects when they are caught in the act with their daughters.

She said the girl child education should be given priority so that girls can compete with boys in class failure to which there will be no women leaders in future in Kenya.

Passaris was speaking on Saturday at Eldoret Sports Club in Uasin Gishu County.
