MPs who were opposed to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recommendations on the Finance Bill are planning to register their own party.
An MP who is leading clandestine maneuvers to see the MPs have a new party told this writer that ‘Uhuru and Raila are no longer popular’.
“We want to bring a paradigm shift to the politics of this country. This is a perfect moment to move our politics from tribal to issue-based,” the MP, who cannot be named at the moment, said.
According to the legislator, party leaders Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga have lost their grip on MPs because they (MPs) have chosen to stand with Kenyans.
“Jubilee and ODM will be very unpopular in 2022, it is time we bring a party that resonates and stands with the poor Kenyans,” he added.
Those backing the idea are planning to go to the shelves and buy Peoples Party of Kenya that was owned by politician David Njuguna Kiburi Mwaura.
Mkenya Daima Party is also another name that is being considered for the new party.
“We are brainstorming on the name,” another MP said.
Many MPs were on Thursday in unity opposing the 8% VAT on petroleum products.
The Leader of Majority and Speaker Justin Muturi, however, applied underhand tricks to ensure the MPs lost the vote.
