A furious ODM leader Raila Odinga has reportedly asked Migori Governor Okoth Obado to 'carry his own cross and leave him alone'.
On Thursday, Obado's brother Daudi Okoth suggestively claimed that the governor's tribulations were orchastrated by Mr Odinga over 'political reasons'.
"You want to tell me that Obado is the most corrupt governor in Kenya? We know there is someone who thinks that he's a god in Luo Nyanza. He's now afraid of the governor's upward trajectory popularity," he said in reference to Raila.
Mr Obado, who was arrested over eight firearms impounded at his Migori and Nairobi homes, was released on Sh500, 000 bond after two days in police cells.
An aide in Raila's Capitol Hill offices says the AU High Representative for Infrastructural Development is concerned with the governor's narrative.
"He wants the governor to walk his own political path without evoking his name. He is unhappy and wants Mr Obado to completely detach him from useless politicking," says the aide who did not want to be named.
At Nyamira in DP William Ruto's company last Saturday, Obado asked Kenyans to pray for him so that 'the crocodile doesn't punish him' in remarks that angered ODM party.
The second term Migori boss is also facing murder charges over the death of his girlfriend Sharon Otieno and had spent a whopping 34 days at Industrial Area prison before being released in October 25.
So defiant is Obado that he has openly deferred with the ODM party, with the most recent being backing youthful politician Eddy Oketch for Migori senatorial by-election in which ODM almost lost to the minow.
Mr Odinga backed Ochillo Ayacko, the eventual winner of the poll but could only defeat the youthful politician by barely 25, votes in a region that is considered an ODM base.
