Deputy President William Ruto has demonstrated his emphasis in having the entire nation back him in his pending 2022 presidential bid.
Courtesy of the most anticipated race, the DP has been touring the entire nation lately under the disguise of development initiatives, in a hidden move to woo Kenyans to support him.
And though he has not been very attentive on the vote-rich Luo Nyanza region, Ruto could end up achieving big should he give the region a shot, judging by its apparent disappointment in opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Odinga has proved to be a perennial presidential loser, as despite enjoying complete support in the region and other parts of the nation, he has been unable to clinch the post, blaming rigging after every loss.
And because of this, the region might be tempted to try the fast-growing Ruto who seems to be sweeping everything on his way, and who is the sure bet in the race whichever way it is looked at.
Second, the region and its people are still nursing the disappointment emanating from Raila's truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier in the year, after swearing himself in as the People's President.
Courtesy of the move, he downplayed the millions of votes the region contributed to his ballot and the suffering some underwent during the post-election demonstrations by going back to acknowledge Uhuru as the Head of State.
He has, therefore, brought himself out as a traitor, rendering the region an easy target of the sweet-spoken Deputy President.
Lastly, Raila is yet to do anything visible for the region even after his reignited friendship with the President, unlike Ruto who is going across the nation introducing new projects.
Dangling the carrot, Ruto is most likely to take over the region in the approaching elections as opposed to Raila who is yet to initiate any project since the completion of his Prime Ministerial tenure in 2013.
