President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday met NASA co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula at State House.
The President said he was happy that leaders from the two political factions had agreed to join him in the ‘development agenda’.
“Today I was humbled and honoured by Western leaders and Wiper Party members for joining me in the development agenda for Kenyans and putting aside political differences,” Uhuru said.
The meeting is likely to stir political waters on what card the President might be pulling in his second and final term in office.
Kalonzo, Raila and Wetangula gave Uhuru a hard time ahead of the 2017 election as they teamed up to and ran against him in one of Kenya’s most competed elections.
They also criticized his government right, left and centre.
But in his second term, the President seems to be reaching out to his rivals in efforts to leave the country united.
Amid these efforts is his deputy William Ruto who stood with him when he was been cornered by the trio and who has ambitions on ascending to the presidency in 2022.
Balancing his unity efforts and his deputy’s 2022 ambitions might be Uhuru’s nightmare at the moment.
As he met Kalonzo and Wetangula, Ruto was missing prompting his supporters to ask about his whereabouts.
“Where is hustler (William Ruto), our next president? Don’t forget those who stood with you when your new friends wanted to roast you,” James Muigai commented on the President’s post.
