Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu is among the few Kenyan politicians who have managed to set up a political base in two different counties.
Born on January 1, 1962, in Kibera, Nairobi, Governor Waititu has held six government posts since his entry into active politics.
In 2002, he was the councillor for Njiru Ward, during the first multiparty general election. He also held the post of deputy mayor in Nairobi.
During retired President Mwai Kibaki's regime, he was picked to serve as an assistant minister in the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.
He served as the Member of Parliament for Embakasi between 2008 and 2013. However, in 2012, he got suspended from his government job over claims of hate speech and inciting violence.
In 2013, he vied for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat but lost to former Governor Dr Evans Kidero.
He, however, made a comeback in May 2015, after he contested for the Kabete Parliamentary seat and won following the death of then MP George Muchai.
He later announced his bid to contest for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat, which he did in the 2017 general elections.
Waititu, popularly known as Baba Yao, cliched the seat after defeating former Governor William Kabogo.
