Deputy President William Ruto was taken to task on prime time TV on what he is worth in an interview with NTV's Mark Maasai.
Mr Ruto eluded giving a straight answer to the pointed question, saying that he was not as rich as some people in this country are and as some critics had claimed him to be.
He denied to owning some of the things that he has been said to own.
"I am not as rich as some people are. There are people in this country who are very rich and I am not in that class," the Deputy President said.
Ruto bemoaned what he called the media's fixation with what he owns and stopping there, suggesting that a sinister agenda was being advanced against him.
He added that he was fully behind the lifestyle audit that had been proposed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
