On March 11, 2017, the battle for the Coast region took a new twist when the then Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo decamped from the Raila Odinga-led ODM to join President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party.
In what was seen as a calculated move to beat into Raila's Coast support base, the decision by Mwazo, a key Raila confidante at the time, to join Uhuru, was expected to be a game-changer in the region's political landscape.
Mwazo was to battle ODM candidate Thomas Mwadheghu in the gubernatorial race.
However, they both lost to a political novice, Granton Samboja of Wiper Party.
For the former Senator, however, he was assured of a government job following President Uhuru Kenyatta's win in the presidential race.
But nevertheless, the job has not been forthcoming neatly one year later.
With, the majority of the region's poll losers landing state jobs in a what could at least cushion them from the vagaries of disappearing into political oblivion, Mwazo is still languishing in the political cold with no job on the table so far.
So, has Uhuru forgotten one of his biggest political catches in the run to the 2017 poll? Or should the former Senator continue waiting a little bit longer?
