One student was injured after fire razed down a school dormitory at Riooga secondary school in Kitutu Masaba, Nyamira County on the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Area MCA Charles Maroko confirmed the incident.

"Fire broke at 4am while students were preparing to go for morning preps. One of the student fell on a nail while escaping from the dormitory," said Maroko.

He said the injured student was rushed to Gucha hospital for treatment while other students remained safe. 

"The cause of fire is yet to be known but, it is suspected that the fire was caused by an electric fault," said the MCA.

The ward representative assured that he will help the school to build the burnt dormitory. 

"I will offer necessary support to the school for the new dormitory to be constructed for students to continue using," he added. 

Nyamira commissioner Amos Mariba assured that probe has commented to establish the real cause of the fire. 

"Students lost everything in the inferno. Leaders should team up to help the affected students so that learning can continue smoothly," said Mariba.
