What can only be termed as unwarranted deaths of young Kenyan girls continue to unravel every now and then with nothing seemingly being done to help the situation.
Unfortunately, the circumstances under which some of these girls died involve the high and the mighty in our society.
Their murders have however remained unresolved while their families efforts to seek justice continue to be faced with insurmountable challenges.
The cold-blood murder of Rongo University student, Sharon Otieno, on Tuesday night after she was allegedly abducted by aides of Migori Governor Okoth Obado, just lengthens the list of such unresolved murders.
Here are other similar murders of young and promising girls who died under mysterious circumstances. Their murders also had high profile public figures widely mentioned.
1. Mercy Keino. She was a masters degree student at the University of Nairobi main campus. Her body was found dumped at Westlands, Nairobi where it had been run over by vehicles.
She was murdered in September 2012 and her mysterious death remains unresolved to date despite a lengthy court process to unravel her killers.
Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo was widely mentioned in her murder but was cleared of any wrongdoing by the High Court sitting in Nairobi.
2. Careen Chepchumba. The 26-year-old former Kenya Power employee was found strangled at her apartment in Kilimani, Nairobi on February 2012.
She is reported to have had an intimate relationship with former TV personality Louis Otieno. Efforts to unravel her killer or killers in court has not yielded results yet.
3. Carol Ngumbu. She was murdered in the run-up to 2017 General Elections alongside the then IEBC ICT manager Chris Musando. Her naked body and that of Musando were found dumped in Lari Forest, Kiambu.
Ngumbu was awaiting to graduate from college during the time of her murder. Her 'collateral' murder and that of Musando, her alleged 'sponsor', remains a mystery to date.
