Police officers in Keroka town are hunting down thugs who allegedly broke into a shop and stole goods worth Sh50,000 on Tuesday night.
Confirming the incident, area assistant chief Kennedy Ndege said the thugs broke into the shop at 11 pm while the owner was asleep.
"We are yet to establish the number of thugs who broke into the shop and stole goods valued at Sh50,000. Among the goods which were stolen include; 5 sacks of 90-kilogram sugar, 10 boxes of soaps, 20 crates of bread, 10 crates of sodas," said the chief.
Ndege noted that the owner of the shop, Mary Bosire, heard the dog barking and when she went to check on what was happening, she found her shop empty.
He assured that the matter has already been reported to police officers.
"Police have started a probe to apprehend the culprits. I am urging locals with information which will lead to the arrest of the suspects to report to authorizes," he noted.
The chief said it was not the first time thugs broke into the shop.
"Police patrols will be intensified to keep off criminals especially at night," noted Ndege.
