Five legislators among them Bomet Central MP Ronald Tonui, Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones, Konoin MP Brighton Yegon and Bomet Senator Christopher Langat and Women Representative Joyce Korir walked out of President Uhuru Kenyatta's function, accusing organisers of denying them opportunity of addressing people on issues challenging locals.

But a source familiar with the Bomet event said State House is concerned over ongoing succession politics which could derail President Uhuru Kenyatta's agenda.

"On Sunday, the president was not pleased with domination of politics at Kapsabet. His handlers thought it wise to henceforth block local politicians who attempt to politicise his functions.

"The president is worried that he keeps talking of Big Four agenda yet his allies are focused on 2022. That's why they were blocked," he said in confidence.

The legislators had planned to reignite the evictions from Mau Forest where members of Kipsigis community were affected along with slow construction of Bomet University.

But areas Governor Joyce Laboso said that it's 'not possible for all leaders to speak in a presidential function'.

"The president had three events. Time wasn't on our side that's why not everyone was invited to speak. The programme is prepared by the president's team. I know they had issues but that was not the proper venue to air their concerns."
