Gusii leaders have been accused of shifting their priorities by frequently visiting Deputy President William Ruto's Karen home in pursuit for development.
A fortnight ago, Dr Ruto hosted delegations from both Kisii and Nyamira Counties where they discussed about completion of projects.
On Tuesday, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro were yet again at Dr Ruto's residence.
Former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire dismissed the trips as waste of time, adding that the leaders should find it appropriate to execute their parliamentary roles.
"In my opinion, these trips are quite unnecessary. Development issues are handled within Parliament unless they are absconding their duties," he said.
Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi over the weekend said leaders should work closely with Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i.
"The president gave a direct order. If there is somewhere you can make development follow-ups, then the right place is at Matiang'i's office," she said in reference to Karen trips.
Currently, Dr Ruto enjoys support from almost nine MPs from Gusii region. He has reportedly identified Kisii and Nyamira Counties as possible battlegrounds.
South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro early this week defended the trips to Karen, arguing that it's easier to discuss development with Ruto than any other government official.
"It's easier to call and discuss development with the Deputy President. He picks calls and listens to us. That's why we prefer him," he said.
