Former Machakos Mayor Rueben Muange has asked Governor Alfred Mutua to take over the leadership of Ukambani region.
Speaking on Saturday, Muange said the Wiper party leadership has confused the community.
He observed that despite Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka leading the community for over 30 years, no change has been experienced and it was time for a new blood to lead.
"Its high time we abandon Wiper party and join Governor Mutua for the sake of the community. Imagine more than 30 years of leadership yet all we are experiencing is a lot of confusion as a community," said Muange.
He claimed Kalonzo has only used the plum positions in government to benefit himself and not the community.
Muange urged Mutua to convene a special meeting as soon as possible, to chart a new political path for the Kamba community.
"All we need as a community is visionary leaders who are able to lead our people out of the yoke of poverty, hero worship and politics of ethnicity," he said.
Muange's statement comes barely a week after Governor Mutua made it clear that he was ready to lead the Kamba community.
Speaking on Thursday, Mutua said the community was tired of being led by people with selfish interests.
He promised to convene a meeting of leaders from the region in a bid to discuss and forge the way forward.
