Police officers in Eldoret have impounded over 78,000 sachets of fruit juices suspected to be expired and not fit for human consumption.
3,000 bottles of the juices were also netted following an operation in Kapsoya estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town.
According to Eldoret East OCPD John Owuoth, the fruit juices are believed to have been imported into the country from Egypt.
Owuoth said the products had expired were supposed to have been sold before 2013.
“We arrested one man who is a suspect and we have locked him at Naiberi police station. He is helping us with the investigation,” the OCPD told the press on Tuesday.
He reiterated that the crackdown will continue until all those who are involved in the illegal business are arrested and prosecuted.
The OCPD also advised residents to be careful and always remember to check on the expiry date of any product before buying or consuming.
“I call upon residents from this region to act as our watchdog by reporting those involved in this illegal business and we as the police, we will ensure stern actions are be taken against them,” he noted.
