Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru has finally broken her silence after discrepancies were noted on her county budget in 2018/2019 financial year.
Kirinyaga is among the counties who are expected to answer questions raised by the Office of the Auditor General regarding the allocation of funds to functions are that are not mandated to the county governments.
Last week, Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu was the first to honour the summon by Senate Public Accounts Committee where he had a hard time explaining outrageous spendings.
According to the auditor’s report, Kirinyaga had allocated Sh344 million for State House affairs and also allocated Sh50 million for “rail transport”, a function that is meant for the national government.
Waiguru has now taken the 'fishy' audit report mess on the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) director's doorstep.
She had denied claims that her county spent on State House Affairs, adding that the allegations are intended to mislead Kenyans.
The county boss insisted that her county followed proper procedures and generated correct IFMIS reports from the financial period in question.
"In response to allegations in certain media that the County Government of Kirinyaga purportedly spent money on “State House affairs” in the 2017-2018 financial year, I wish to categorically state that these claims are obviously untrue, unfounded, and intended to grossly mislead the public for malicious purposes," Waiguru's post read in part.
She further called for an immediate apology from the National Treasury and resignation of the IFMIS director. She said that there was an attempt to misuse IFMIS so as to mislead by falsely taking the blame to County Executives.
