For the past two days, social media has been abuzz with mixed reactions following one of the celebrities’ explicit photos that have been circulating portraying obscenity and indecency.
Perhaps in a bid to lure more fans and maintain her popularity and relevance, the female singer performed in front of a huge audience and pulled a distasteful stunt on stage.
She then went on and shared the lewd photos on her social media accounts. Nonetheless, her repugnant behaviour is not unique to her as this has been the norm especially with most celebrities who have ditched their morals in favour of fame and money.
The society is almost devoid of role models and mentors as far as celebrities especially artistes are concerned.
Barely a fortnight ago, two Kenyan self-proclaimed gospel artistes hit the headlines not for releasing the collabo of the century but rather for collaborating in perpetrating sexual delinquency against a 20-year old lady.
The million-dollar question, therefore, is on the credibility of these artistes acting as the exemplar of role models for the current generation.
Years to come, morality and decency may be a subject only found in books. The social fabric and moral decency are at stake thus calling on everyone to rise to the occasion.
The resultant state of affairs bestows the responsibility on everyone’s shoulders to be the role model that youngsters can emulate.
Whether or not one is in a position of power and influence, every adult is obliged to offer guidance and serve as an archetypal custodian of societal morality to counter the skewed notion created by a few injudicious luminaries.
Popularity, fame, money, relevance and everything else that our celebrities seem to be in pursuit of, can still be achieved decently and through the right ways.
Nonetheless, the responsibility is everyone’s – mentor just one child and the world will have more leader who can be entrusted with guiding others into the future.
