Apart from the first Kisumu County deputy governor Ruth Odinga, current Woman representative Rosa Buyu, and former Woman Representative Rose Nyamunga, Mrs Farida Ahmed Salim can be said to be in a better position to become Kisumu County’s first female governor.

She contested for the ODM party ticket in Kisumu Central constituency nominations, ahead of the 2013 general elections but lost to former MP Ken Obura.

The Orange Party then nominated her to the County Assembly where her contribution was clearly visible for anyone to see.

Last year, she contested for the Shauri Moyo/Kaloleni ward seat on Citizen’s Convention Party (CCP) ticket and lost to the incumbent, ODM’s Prisca Auma Misachi.

For fifteen years, Mrs Salim was a lecturer at the Kisumu National Polytechnic teaching business related courses before she decided to quit and join politics ahead of the 2013 general elections.

“I decided to move out of the classroom to serve greater interests of the public. In a normal classroom setting, you can only serve up to 30 students,” she told this writer in an earlier interview.

Given her experience and exposure as a lecturer and a member of the Kisumu County Assembly, she stands a very good chance of becoming the first Madam Kisumu Governor.

Currently, the 44-year-old mother of two is a member of the Kisumu City Board. She is yet to announce her next political move ahead of 2022.
