Deputy President William Ruto has hinted at picking a woman as his running mate in his 2022 presidential ambition.
Speaking in Bureti, Kericho County on Sunday, the DP said that the same will be a good move towards creating a future female president of Kenya.
He said that the Jubilee Party might begin its bid to give the nation her first female president by bringing one close to the seat before she takes off on her own wings.
"That idea is very good. Jubilee is likely to give women the first shot towards the presidency by picking one of them as my running mate in 2022,” he was quoted by the Standard.
The DP added that the Jubilee leadership will continue giving female politicians the platform they need for political elevation.
However, he said that whoever wants to be his running mate in the much-awaited contest will have to prove themselves on matters leadership and work very hard for it.
“Nothing is given on a silver plate. Women must work hard for the leadership of this great nation. We must, therefore, work to steer the country forward,” he added.
This comes barely a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta predicted that Kenya will very soon have her first fame president.
The Head of State added that his best performing Cabinet Ministers are actually women.
