As the 2022 succession politics continue to gather momentum in the country, politicians in the Rift Valley region have found themselves in a steep road after dissolving United Republican Party (URP) during the formation of the Jubilee Party in the run-up to the 2007 polls.

Deputy President William Ruto who is viewed as the Rift Valley kingpin is on a mission to rise to the presidency, and the current division being witnessed in Jubilee is not what the DP and his camp envisaged when they dissolved the party.

With about three years to the fast approaching general elections, most of the aspirants of various seats in the Rift Valley region are already creating different strategies in readiness for the polls. 

The recent meeting between Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader Isaac Ruto and a section of politicians from the region is a clear indication that the former Bomet governor is planning a major political comeback. 

Although details of what was discussed during the meeting remain scanty, Isaac Ruto is believed to be plotting to take advantage of the division being witnessed between the ‘Kieleweke’ and ‘Tanga Tanga’ factions of the Jubilee party to woo politicians to the CCM party. 

CCM party will provide an alternative to Rift Valley politicians who will find themselves isolated in the event of a fall out between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy Ruto ahead of the 2022 polls.
