Details are emerging that Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen would have lost his position were it not an intervention from the party’s boss.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ‘boys’ were reportedly warming up to Murkomen’s removal when a call came from the President and warned against ‘touching ‘ Murkomen, a source said.
Uhuru is said to have placed the call Sunday afternoon as some members of Jubilee planned to send the vocal senator packing over his remarks on the ongoing Mau evictions.
However, a statement by Murkomen on Saturday seemed to secure Uhuru’s support.
“Mr President, today, I want to tell these people that I have come here and I have seen their suffering. I want you to also come to Mau, and tell them whether you stand with Natembeya, or the common man who gave you votes,” Murkomen said.
He added: “I know that the president on whose behalf I fought so hard, the same one we campaigned for against other people, cares for the people of Mau. So I want to tell you today, if tomorrow I get ejected from my job as Senate majority leader, it will because I talked on your behalf.”
The witty remarks might be what won Uhuru’s words and made him stand with him.
