A man in his 40s was canned thoroughly on Saturday while his wife and three children were watching after he was caught with 9 stolen chicken.
The incident happened in Kebirigo, West Mugirango, Nyamira County.
Area assistant chief Amos Obwocha said the suspect Maurice Omambia stole the chicken from Kabatia area and he was nabbed by residents of Nyageita Ng'umbu.
"The suspect was caught with the chicken while ferrying them to Kebirigo market. Upon being questioned he abandoned the chicken and started running away prompting the public to chase after him and nabbed him," he noted.
Mr Obwocha said the man was taken to his home where he was given a dog's beating as his wife and children watched.
"During the beating the man named five people who he has been colluding with to steal. Later, the suspect was surrendered to Nyamira police station for court processing on Monday," he stated.
The chief assured that a manhunt has been launched to arrest the five people he named.
"I together with the members of the community policing we have started hunting down the five people he named. Stealing must come to an end," said Obwocha.
