Ailing Olympic legend Nyantika Maiyoro now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and have him recovering his 7-acre land in Nyamira which he says has been grabbed.
In a statement from Christamarriane Hospital in Kisii, the 88-year-old track legend also asked former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to have him recover the land.
Mr Maiyoro, visibly in pain, said he was allocated the piece of land by Founding President Jomo Kenyatta, the father to President Uhuru Kenyatta in 60s due to his process in track games.
"I urge President Uhuru (Kenyatta), opposition leader Raila (Odinga) and interior CS Fred (Matiang'i) to ensure my family gets justice " he from his hospital bed.Nyandika lamented that two locals allegedly grabbed the said land in 2012, but even after reporting the case to the police in Nyamira, he is yet to get it back.
“I was given the land by the former President Mzee Kenyatta after I had represented the country well in the international events,” he said.
He was the first Kenyan athlete to compete professionally following his participation in Indian Ocean games where he emerged the best despite starting late in 1953.
Subsequently, he competed in Commonwealth games in 1954 emerging position four in 5,000 meters. He would later become the first Olympic participant in 1956 and 1968 editions.
Mr Maiyoro, who was admitted on Monday due to his tuberculosis condition, mentored Olympic legends Naphtali Temu and Charles Asati, who won Gold medals in 1968 and 1972 editions respectively.
