Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been in the limelight following his remarks on the ongoing demolition of buildings on riparian land in Nairobi.
Speaking during a church service at PCEA Musa Gitau Gikambura church in Kikuyu Constituency on Sunday, Waititu opposed the move, arguing it was causing losses to investors.
The county boss said the government should instead ask the building owners to incur the costs of diverting the rivers, so as to avoid the destruction of property.
“I do not support the issue of demolitions. If your building is close to a river, you should incur the costs of having the river moved a little further. But demolishing a building is not a solution, honestly speaking. It is such a big loss,” said Waititu.
The county boss’ remarks elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans on social media, with a section of them trolling him with the Baba Yao Challenge.
In a recent troll video shared on Facebook by Jacob Okanga Jagongo, a man identified as Victor cries out to Governor Waititu to help him move a river away from his posho mill which has been marked for demolition by NEMA.
Here is the video that is making rounds on social media.
