ODM Leader Raila Amolo Odinga on Wednesday announced his departure to Addis Ababa. Raila, who doubles as African Union’s special envoy, is expected to attend conference on infrastructure.

He revealed that the meeting is expected to bring together leaders from different parts of world. 

“Departing for Addis Ababa to attend a conference on infrastructure meant to facilitate the integration of the Belt and Road Initiative and the development strategies of African countries. It will bring together representatives from various international institutions,” he said.

The meeting comes at a time when Kenyans are waiting for answers in the alleged fake gold scandal.  Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s names were dragged into the deal. The opposition leader, however, insisted that he was only a whistle blower of the deal that went sour.

“I was the whistle-blower in the fake gold syndicate when I discovered some people were using senior government officials’ names to con businessmen,” he said.

He also defended interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’ i over his role in the saga. Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula has been linked to the saga after an audio of a person believed to be him communication with the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum from UAE over the deal.
