Deputy President William Ruto has been forced to explain on why he missed the Huduma Namba registration launch in Kakamega on Tuesday.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had dispatched top leaders in the country to various regions to ensure they influence Kenyans to come out and register.
Uhuru was in Machakos, Raila in Mombasa and Ruto had been scheduled to be the chief guest during the launch in Kakamega.
Ruto did not show up in Kakamega and that left tongue wagging on whether he had deliberately boycotted the exercise.
The situation worsened after it appeared there was confusion on the whereabouts of the Deputy President by Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa and Amina Mohammed who had arrived in Kakamega to receive Ruto.
Netizens peddled conspiracy theories on why Ruto did not attend the registration exercise.
This forced him to explain that he was in a meeting with a Cuban delegation led by the Vice President of the Councils of State Ines María Chapman Waugh.
“This (the meeting at his office) is a State function and therefore I could not go (to Kakamega),” Ruto told a press briefing.
