Political analyst Ambrose Weda is of the opinion that Deputy President William Ruto’s Monday tour of Migori County will mark the start of an intense offensive into the entire Luo Nyanza region.
Speaking on KBC English Service’s ‘The Big Conversation’ on Wednesday morning, Weda noted that Ruto chose the region as his entry point into the opposition backyard.
Basing on the region’s political division, with the Kuria side largely allied to the ruling Jubilee party as opposed to the Luo side which is considered on opposition leader Raila Odinga’s side, he observed that it gives Ruto the best environment to encroach into the remaining part of the region.
‘’The place is cosmopolitan and not entirely an opposition backyard and, therefore, the best starting point as he targets to spread his influence into the remaining parts of the Luo Nyanza region,’’ said Weda.
He added that Ruto who promised a number of development goodies to the region now has an excuse to continue with his attempts to make inroads into the lakeside province.
‘’There are lots of development projects going on in the region so he has sufficient reasons and excuses to keep coming back,’’ noted the High Court Advocate.
Ruto promised to spearhead the government’s initiation of more development projects in the Luo Nyanza area and vowed to again tour the Okoth Obado-led county in February next year.
