Mwonya had handed over to acting VC Prof Alexader Kahi after she was accused of corruption and suspended.

The students chanted:  ''We want mum back!”

 ''Why frustrate mama?''

The students staged the low profile protest after the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nakuru temporarily reinstated the embattled VC.

Justice Monica Mbaru, in her ruling Thursday, lifted the 90-day compulsory leave issued to Prof Mwonya by the varsity's council.

“The applicant shall return to work as at 8am October 19, and shall assist the Egerton University Council in all matters pertaining to the duties of the accounting officer pending the hearing of the application and further directions,” the court ruled.

The court further ordered the university council to ensure that acting VC Prof Alexander Kahi resumes his ordinary duties as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic.

Prof Mwonya filed an application on September 19 challenging the decision by the council to send her on compulsory leave.

This was after she was accused of irregularly awarding scholarships to undeserving students besides misappropriating university funds.
