A group of MPs associated with Deputy President William Ruto's campaign team resurfaced on Sunday at Bureti in Kericho, insisting that whatever the case, Ruto must succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In recent weeks, the team popularly known as Tanga Tanga, had taken a 'sabbatical leave' following warning from President Uhuru Kenyatta who asked them to work for the people instead of politicking.
"Whether you change the constitution, name President position as Prime Minister, Ruto must be in charge. He supported Uhuru all through and there is no turning back," Laikipia Women Representative Catherine Waruguru said.
Kimilili MP Didmas Barasa added: "You can't tell us to stop campaigning then you go around the country talking about a referendum. We shall support William Ruto and he will be in State House. The former Western Province will support his bid. He shall win with a landslide."
Others who backed Ruto's bid include Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwah, Belgut MP Nelson Koech and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot. Mr Cheruiyot asked Raila Odinga to retire.
But while addressing the congregation, DP William Ruto stayed off politics, only urging Kenyans to preach peace and unity. He also said that he will support the Jubilee agenda for the sake of prosperity.
"Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass. At an interdenominational church service and thanksgiving ceremony of Florence Bore, Kericho County Women Representative, Bureti, Kericho County."
This comes at a time when a section of Central Kenya leaders have formed a caucus dubbed Mt Kenya and Diaspora Forum whose intentions are to tame the Tanga Tanga team.
