Marrying a chubby woman, popularly nicknamed 'momo' in most of our urban centers is considered a major milestone in Luo land.
Basing on my observation as an insider, most men who are lucky to have these 'healthy' ladies in their homes are considered more courageous, confident and having more guts.
This is as a result of their ability to approach, seduce and finally convince the women who are mostly considered as physically intimidating to marry them.
Also, such women are considered stronger than their slender counterparts. They are supposedly said to have the ability to undertake heavy duties around the homestead, like fetching water among other things.
Apart from that, it is a show of financial power basing it on the notion that such people are "believed to feed more" than the other slender women thus, whoever manages to maintain them is financially stable.
Finally, with Luos being one of the communities in the nation where the wife remains second in command and the man the family head, managing to convince them to observe the set family rules can be a hard task.
Therefore, marrying and managing to convince them to hold the second position is a big achievement that any man would like to be lauded for.
