This is after the government merged the Kenya Police and the Administration Police into one unit, in a bid to enhance the services rendered by the law enforcement body.

But according to Omtatah, the changes are unconstitutional, arguing that the implementation of the reforms is irregular and unlawful.

In his court papers, he wants the implementation of the reforms suspended and is demanding a court order temporarily prohibiting the state from affecting them.

He is specifically seeking the prohibition of the changes in the structure of the service, the rebranding of police training colleges and the introduction of housing allowance for junior officers.

Omtatah is also against the merging of the two departments which were initially separate in his application.

While launching the changes on Thursday, Uhuru as well introduced the new full blue police uniform set to be worn by the force.

The move has as well been opposed by a section of politicians, led by Rarieda lawmaker Otiende Amollow who has since accused Uhuru of interrupting in police affairs.

Defending the uniform change, however, Uhuru said that the new uniform will among others, enhance visibility.
