ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga enjoys near fanatical following in most parts of Nyanza, if not most parts of the country.

In his home area of Bondo, Siaya County, he is adored by the old and the young.

That is why it is very difficult to imagine him being heckled in Bondo. But as any politician of his caliber and experience will tell you, in politics you can have a bad day in office by being booed by members of the public, more so his/her ardent supporters.

It was on June 5, 2017, Odinga, accompanied by a section of National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders was booed and jeered by angry youth when he attempted to campaign for Siaya Governor Cornel Amoth Rasanga.

Rasanga defended his seat on an ODM ticket. He was facing stiff completion from Nicholas Gumbo who was vying for the gubernatorial post as an independent candidate after losing to Rasanga in the ODM Party primaries.

Gumbo’s supporters got incensed when Odinga attempted to campaign for Rasanga.

"If we have an ODM governor here in Siaya, it will be easy for me to source for resources and channel it down to our counties unlike where there is an independent governor,” Raila said.

The boos and jeers that followed made it look like Odinga was not in his Bondo backyard.
