The DP has maintained that maize farmers should diversify and start planting other crops instead of focusing only on one crop.

Speaking at Kitale showgrounds in Trans Nzoia county during the Kitale Catholic Diocese day, Ruto maintained that diversification was the best way to go for farming in the country.

He pointed out that diversification will help address perennial problems that maize farmers have been facing.

“We must change our ways. We cannot be fighting year in year out over the price of maize. We must find how we will ensure we have food and crops that earn us money as well," DP Ruto said in a video captured by KTN News

This comes at a time a section of North Rift politicians and farmers have been up in arms over low maize prices set for this season.

The government approved Sh2,300 as buying price for a 90-kilogram bag of maize down from the previous rice of Sh3,600, a price that farmers and some leaders in maize growing region have rejected and demanded a review upwards.
