Four mourners escaped death narrowly on Monday at Nyamesocho in Nyaribari Masaba in Kisii County after a fight broke at a funeral.
Witnesses said the trouble started when a man James Ombaki armed with sulphuric acid stormed the grave where the deceased was to be laid to rest and started opening the coffin to spay the corpse with the acid.
"Ombaki bought acid to burn the corpse of his brother on grounds that he never wanted witches to eat the corpse. The deceased children descended on him with kicks and blows," noted Ezekiel Onduso.
Mr. Onduso said Ombaki in self-defence he sprinkled the acid which burnt four mourners who were at the graveyard.
Area chief Edward Ongeri condemned the incident saying people like Ombaki should not be condoned the reach near the grave of the deceased people.
"What Ombaki tried to do is unacceptable and uncalled for. The victims who were burnt with acid are currently receiving treatment at Nyamache hospital," he noted.
The administrator warned members of the public against burning corpses with acids saying anyone found will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
He maintained that the practice of burning corpses with acid is barbaric which should be condoned.
